Passive fire protection (PFP) is risk critical to life safety in a building and it also provides vital property protection. Effective PFP helps prevent a fire spreading through a building and can contain a fire to the room/area of origin if installed and maintained correctly.

PFP encompasses such elements as fire doors and fire resisting walls, floors and enclosures. It also includes the fire stopping of any holes or gaps (breaches) created by the passage of building services through the fire resisting walls/floors/enclosures.
