Compartmentation and fire stopping surveys

Compartmentation is the principle of providing separating a building into different areas with fire resisting construction (walls, floors and enclosures) to contain a fire to the room/area of origin. It is a safety critical feature and it is a legal requirement to have the necessary level of compartmentation and that it has been installed and maintained correctly. Fire stopping refers to the sealing of any gaps or holes in the lines of compartmentation caused by building services (such as electrical cables, data cables and pipework) which penetrate them with suitably fire rated materials/systems.

A compartmentation and fire stopping survey by an accredited expert can be the most robust way to benchmark the current state of the compartmentation and fire stopping in your building/s.

EAL deliver high quality compartmentation and fire stopping surveys. The surveys will be carried out in accordance with the requirements of BM Trada. Agreement will be reached with the client about the specific scope of the survey but in principle it will survey all the lines of fire compartmentation within the building. The location of compartment walls, floors and enclosures would normally be expected to be identified by the existing fire strategy and/or fire risk assessment provide by the client to EAL. However, if this is not the case the lead EAL surveyor is an experienced fire engineer and certified fire risk assessor so will be able to determine the lines of compartmentation.

EAL use the ‘One Trace’ survey application to record the survey findings. It is a nationally recognised surveying application widely used by BM Trada accredited passive fire companies. The survey report will be linked to floor plans of the building to show the exact location of each area sampled. Each area will be assigned a specific log sheet which lists the defect/s and the remedial actions required to be carried out.

Survey costs are very competitive. Please get in touch for a bespoke quotation, which will be provided within 24 hours of any enquiry. We are happy to provide clients with a redacted example of a survey report prior to engagement so they can see the quality of the surveys we carry out.
